Day twenty nine: Thursday 26 April 2007
Rest day.
Day thirty: Monday 30 April 2007
Bike. Today I covered 42.6 miles at an average speed of 17.6 mph. My legs felt ok but I sensed dehydration set in mid-ride. The wind was pretty strong; accordingly to the local weather forecast, 20mph eindspeed was typical in and around Norwich.
Having considered everything, I was pleased with this effort but realise at the same time, HUGE amounts of work and dedication are needed for the actual event...
Day thirty one: Tuesday 1 May 2007
Bike. I headed out for an early ride and covered 47.7 miles, again into a reasonably strong wind (approximately 20 mph) and averaged 17.3 mph. I have to admit I was surprised that the average speed was as high as this, reason being that my legs were very jaded and found it difficault fighting the wind when I rode into it. I had already decided that I would also do a gym workout later in the day...
Gym. After returning home from the gym, having some lunch and getting changed into t-shirt and shorts, I headed to the gym intent on doing at least 8 exercises, most of which I did not do on the previous visit:-
Tricep pulldowns: 3 sets of 20 reps at 20kg (0).
Kneeling 'Superman' raises: 2 sets of 20 reps (0).
Side frame crunches: 2 sets of 20 reps per side (n/a).
Reverse curls: 2 sets of 30 reps (n/a).
Oblique crunches: 2 sets of 30 reps (n/a).
Rear crucifix raises: 3 sets of 10 reps at 5kg (0).
Calf raises: 1 set of 15 reps, 1 of 13 reps and 1 of 12 reps at 100kg (+15kg).
Dorsal raises: 2 sets of 20 reps (n/a).
Inner thigh squeezes: 2 sets of 20 reps at 165lbs (+5lbs).
Outer thigh pushes: 2 sets of 20 reps at 105lbs (0).

Gym. I was a little surprised when I got up today to only experience aches around the ab areas. These excersises have placed quite a large load on this area but the discomfort should disappear in the next few days ***crossing fingers***
Leg press: 3 sets of 10 reps at 200kg (0).
Leg extensions: 3 sets of 10 reps at 70kg (+5kg).
Leg curls: 3 sets of 10 reps at 50kg (0).
Side frame crunches: 2 sets of 25 reps per side (n/a).
Front planks: 5 reps at 20 seconds each (n/a).
Dorsal raises: 2 sets of 20 reps (n/a).
Kneeling 'Superman' raises: 2 sets of 20 reps (n/a).
Reverse curls: 2 sets of 25 reps (n/a).
Close grip chins: 1 set of 7 reps, 1 of 5 reps and 1 of 7 reps at setting number 8 (n/a).
Day thirty four: Friday 4 May 2007
Bike. Today I met up with a mate of mine, Darren Evans for a pre-arranged ride of about 50 miles.
I actually rode 39 miles at an average speed of 18.3 mph; very reasonable considering this included a medium effort getting to meeting point prior to the ride. On the route we met with two other riders and took it in turns to battle the head wind (a moderate 15mph in strength) and I managed to ride the final 5 or 6 miles leading at the front with Darren riding behind me....
